Health Career Connection: Advancing Workforce Solutions

With over 35 years of experience, Health Career Connection (HCC) is a leader in systems change and addressing workforce shortages in the health sector. Our proven track record includes developing innovative solutions to bridge gaps in talent and industry demand, with a focus on strengthening workforce initiatives and pathways statewide and nationally. We are experts in public health, primary care, behavioral health and other areas. These efforts are critical as these sectors face growing workforce shortages, projected shortfalls in key professions, and rising burnout among health professionals.

HCC’s Workforce Division is dedicated to building a sustainable and highly skilled workforce for the health sector that meets the health needs and reflects the communities they serve. By tailoring solutions to regional needs, we ensure that communities are equipped with the talent and resources necessary to meet the demands of an evolving health industry landscape.

National, State and Local Leadership and Expertise

National

HCC drives national impact through strategic initiatives that strengthen the health workforce. In partnership with the de Beaumont Foundation and the National Consortium for Public Health Workforce Development , HCC led efforts to design and implement bold recruitment and retention strategies that grow a community-rooted workforce reflective of the populations it serves. HCC is also a founding member of the National Alliance for Public Health Pathway Programs, reinforcing its leadership in expanding access to health career pathways nationwide.

California

In California, HCC plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing workforce strategies that build a health workforce deeply connected to and reflective of local communities. As Co-Director of the California Future Health Workforce Commission, HCC helped lead the development of a comprehensive statewide plan to address projected workforce shortages and improve access to care. HCC also leads the California Health Professions Consortium (CHPC), a statewide coalition advancing policy, partnerships, and collective action to expand health career pathways and strengthen the state’s health workforce infrastructure.

Regional

HCC leads Regional Health Workforce Initiatives across California, aligning local innovation with statewide goals to strengthen the health workforce. Supported by The California Endowment, we provide grants, strategic guidance, and capacity-building to help regions design and implement community-rooted solutions. Our proven partnerships include the SLO Health Workforce Partnership, Richmond Promise, OneFuture Coachella Valley, and others committed to building sustainable local talent pipelines.

Strategic Advising and Support

HCC’s Workforce Division offers a comprehensive range of services to support a strong and responsive health workforce:

  • Regional Health Workforce Collaboratives: Engaging stakeholders to develop local solutions that strengthen workforce pipelines.
  • Networking and Professional Development: Connecting partners with industry networks and learning opportunities to foster collaboration and shared strategies.
  • Workforce Studies and Analysis: Delivering data-driven insights into regional trends and talent gaps.
  • Strategic Advising: Providing expert guidance to help partners address workforce needs and align efforts with broader sector priorities.
  • Career Pathway Initiatives: Expanding access to health careers and supporting efforts to ensure the workforce reflects the communities being served.

Regional Health Workforce Initiative Network

The Health Workforce Innovation Network (Health WIN) is an initiative led by Health Career Connection to address critical workforce challenges in California’s health sector. Health WIN brings together regional stakeholders, policymakers, and community leaders to develop innovative, equity-driven solutions tailored to local workforce needs. Health WIN fosters collaboration and alignment with statewide initiatives. Together, we are building resilient, inclusive workforce ecosystems equipped to meet the evolving demands of the health sector.

California Health Professionals Consortium

The California Health Professions Consortium (CHPC) is a statewide coalition dedicated to advancing health equity by fostering a diverse and inclusive health workforce. Comprised of stakeholders from across the health, education, and workforce sectors, CHPC promotes collaboration and innovation to address critical workforce challenges. With representation from community-based organizations, academic institutions, employers, and policymakers, CHPC works to create opportunities for underrepresented populations in health professions and to strengthen the capacity of California’s health workforce to meet the needs of its diverse communities.
