HCC Alumni Opportunities to Make a Difference in the Lives of Interns!

Consider the three possibilities of helping to ensure the educational
experience continues on for students:

1. Host an HCC intern at your workplace

HCC Alumni who are in the workplace and those in mid to senior-level positions should consider being a preceptor or for those in entry-level positions, you can encourage your employer to be a host organization.

2. Contribute towards creating HCC internship opportunities in underserved communities

The HCC Alumni Giving Initiative’s goal is to establish 10 new host organizations in our underserved communities within the seven HCC regions. Oftentimes, these host organizations are at the heart of the communities in need with limited resources and require assistance with covering the intern stipend.

Every dollar will ensure an opportunity for an HCC intern to make a difference in these communities and have a valuable educational experience.

HCC Alumni will help identify 10 HCC Alumni Giving Initiative host organizations so help us reach our goal and click here to donate today. Please indicate the Alumni Giving Campaign in the memo/special instructions box.

3. Reach out to your network of health professionals, including your HCC preceptor, and encourage them to be a host organization

A recent survey indicated that 96% of HCC Preceptors would highly recommend HCC to colleagues. This finding inspired our new HCC Referral Program which will increase opportunities for student interns and demonstrate our appreciation for your continued support.

Each year HCC turns away hundreds of qualified, deserving students. We could place 2 to 3 times as many interns if we simply had more paid internship placements. Given that paid internship placements are hard to come by in this economic climate, a strong recommendation from a trusted colleague who can attest to the value and impact of the HCC experience can make all the difference to a potential preceptor and host organization.

One recent example is Karen Sein, MBA, HCC 05, who introduced HCC to her current employer, California Pacific Medical Center, part of the Sutter Health network. California Pacific Medical Center became an HCC host organization in 2012. Another way to outreach is through your networks on LinkedIn. Dominika Samojlik, MPH, CHES, HCC 05, currently working as Community Manager at SurroundHealth, is sending HCC Host Organization outreach flyers to her LinkedIn contacts along with a personal testimonial about her HCC experience. These are but two ways to connect HCC to your networks.

The HCC Referral Program includes your referral of HCC to one of your colleagues, including your HCC preceptor. If this results in a fully paid HCC internship placement, you will receive one $50 Visa, MasterCard, or American Express Gift Card. If the organization takes multiple fully paid interns, you can receive a gift card
