California Internships

HCC and its predecessor programs have offered internships in California for over 20 years. HCC is committed to increasing the number of California healthcare leaders and professionals from all ethnic backgrounds who will make a difference in improving coverage, access, health status and delivery of service for our richly diverse population.

HCC places interns in leading California healthcare organizations including hospitals, community clinics, medical groups, health plans, advocacy organizations, healthcare associations, public health departments, consulting firms and providers of healthcare products. We offer placements in Northern California (Bay Area and Sacramento), Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County and the Inland Empire. We would also attempt to place interested students in central California or rural areas given their need for committed health professionals.

Some of HCC's previous internship placement organizations include:

  • Kaiser Hospitals and Medical Groups
  • Alameda Alliance for Health
  • Health Net
  • UCSF Medical Center
  • Palo Alto Medical Foundation
  • La Clinica de La Raza
  • Venice Family Clinic
  • Well Point Health Plan
  • Medical Specialties Managers
  • Integrated Healthcare Association of California
  • Insure the Uninsured
  • East Valley Hospital
  • Alta Medical Healthcare Services
  • La Salle Medical Group
  • Queens Care Healthcare
  • Glide Community Clinic
  • Operation Access

Through one of our Founding Sponsors, the Integrated Healthcare Association of California, and our extensive network of healthcare providers HCC will expand our California internship offerings in 2003.

With the generous support of the California HealthCare Foundation, HCC offers special placements for students of color to work in organizations serving and working to improve the healthcare of underserved or ethnically diverse populations.

HCC also partners with leading graduate programs in Public Health to encourage and assist students with important graduate school decision-making and preparation. Through HCC's partnerships with the UC Berkeley and UCLA Schools of Public Health HCC Interns are connected to faculty, students, admission staff and alumni willing to assist and mentor them.

HCC has a very strong network of intern alumni in California who are committed to supporting interns as preceptors, mentors, speakers and advisors.

HCC interns have come from numerous UC, CSU and private California Universities, including Berkeley, Stanford, UC San Diego, UCLA, CSU Northridge, CSU San Jose, CSU Chico, UC Irvine, Claremont College, Scripps College and CSU Hayward. We also strongly encourage out of state applicants to apply and in 2002 we had California Interns from Harvard, MIT, Barnard College and The University of Alabama.
